30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 3

I am thankful to have a hobby that I love.
Scrapbooking, of course!
It allows me a creative outlet, doing something worthwhile
(keeping family memories)
and
has introduced me to more wonderful friends than I can count!

It is amazing how many people I have met through Scrapbooking!!!
It is definitely something I see myself doing through the rest of my life and hope to pass on the memory-keeping bug to my children, especially Sophie.

Until Next Time,

SCRAP ON!

Skyline #10

Our Group Photo was taken on the ropes course.  Kinda neat eh?
We climbed up as high as we felt comfortable and were able to get everyone in the shot!

30 Ladies came and had a great time this weekend.  I have been told already that it was the BEST SKYLINE YET!  So, I am happy that everyone had a great time.
 Dawn, Jess, ME and Laura.
Marcy and I.  I love this gal!  She's like a sister to me and I would anything for her!  :)

Probably one of the best pictures of me in a long time.  It's amazing what a little make-up will do!

Our Goody Bag with all of the contents.  I love goody bags!

Me goofing off on the ropes course! I was laughing so hard here, I couldn't do the "sexy pose".   Yeah, right!  LOL

Until Next Time,

Sweet Scrappiness!!

This is the Dining Hall at Skyline with all of our stuff set up.
There are a few of us who wake up REALLY early and get our coffee.
It looks like an episode of Hoarders, but I promise you, good things are happening with this "Scrap Crap" (as my hubby calls it).....
Our SNACK table is filled this year with all kinds of things we really shouldn't be eating.  But, we all bring an item to contribute to the snack table and "graze" all day long.
This is my table and where I am sitting this weekend.  The plan is to crank out as many layouts as possible and get in some much-needed "girlie" time.
I hope to come out of this retreat rejuvinated and relaxed.
Maybe even get my page count up to 300 while I am here.  I am at 266 for the year so far.  So, maybe I can hit 300!
As far as I am concerned, My kids are safe and sound at home with my in-laws and husband and I am away with My Skyline Sisters and that is ALL that matters!!!

Until Next Time,
SCRAP ON!

Skyline Retreat Bound!!!

Today is the first day of the 10th Skyline Retreat!

I have some great memories from this retreat and I have also fulfilled some personal dreams through this retreat.  Pretty weird that planning a retreat and attending retreats would be the way to fulfill dreams, but it has been for me!
 #1
When I was younger and working as a fitness instructor/personal trainer, I told myself that I really wanted to own a retreat center and spa.
  #2
I took the necessary classes to become a certified personal trainer and I even took a few classes on Skin Care, Manicure and Pedicure Techniques and Make-up. All of these classes were done to prepare myself for this dream of owning a retreat/spa center. I even joined Mary Kay to become a Skin Care Consultant.
  #3
As I got older, got married, moved to Georgia, had kids, that dream started to morph into a different kind of dream.  I wanted to plan events and maybe eventually own a retreat center.
  #4
I started scrapbooking in 2002 after we moved to Georgia. I needed to find a way to organize all the photos I had and I needed the creative outlet.
Fast Forward to February 2007.... I joined an online community for scrapbookers and started meeting ladies all over the place that scrapbook AND go on retreats!  I was HOOKED....
  #5
I started making plans for a retreat that I could plan and had a list of ideas in a little notebook that I kept in my purse. It was the beginning of "my dream job" coming to life! I still have that little notebook, too!  I knew that I had to get myself known on the online community if I wanted my retreat to be a success and I also knew that I wanted to go to as many retreats/day crops as I could in order to gain experience (as an attendee).  So, I did just that!  I took notes at every retreat/day crop that I attended.  I wrote down the things I loved, liked, disliked and would NEVER want to do.  I started to plan the first retreat in August of 2007.
  #6
I had to find a venue and I needed it to be close enough that I could drive and cheap enough that it wouldn't break the bank.  I met Shelbi in November 2007 and she told me about Camp Skyline. She offered to help me with the retreat and I decided that it would be good to have a sounding board to bounce ideas off of and vent to. Shelbi was a great resource and I always tell everyone that she was the one that found Camp Skyline and introduced me!

April 11-13, 2008, we hosted the first retreat "Tri-State Scrapshare Retreat".  It has been changed to Skyline Sisterhood because it is open to everyone now and not just the online community of Scrapshare.
  #8
Planning this retreat has taken many learning curves. It has been an eye-opener and has taught me a lot about budgeting for incidentals, handling money (that isn't mine), group dynamics, personality conflicts and how to handle them, and many, many more things than I thought I would learn by just planning a retreat.  It is definitely the closest to my dream that I will get, considering the economic times and the fact that my life has changed so much since my initial dream.  But I am, surprisingly, okay with that. This retreat has given me some of the BEST friendships I have ever had in my lifetime, a Sisterhood support system to ask for help or prayers when needed,  confidence in myself that I have always struggled to have, the satisfaction of "a job well done" at the successful end of each retreat.
A different sense of accomplishment that I rarely feel in my regular day-to-day life. It's ALL good.
#9

Now, don't get me wrong, it is also a "get-away" with the gals to goof off and be silly, eat whenever and whatever I want, have my meals cooked for me, take a nap whenever I feel tired and a much needed break from my home life with the kids and hubby too.  But that is a whole other post!  ;)

Who would have thought that 5 years later,
we would be having our 10th Retreat!!!  Amazing!

Thanks for remembering the journey with me and reading this blog!
It means a great deal to me!
Until Next Time,
SCRAP ON!

Project Life 2012 - Getting Started!!!!

So, in January, I started to take a photo a day to do this 365+1 album.  Taking a photo a day is sometimes hard to do especially when you forget your camera!
A couple of days, I used some backup photos that I had, but for the most part, I took a photo a day and will continue for the duration of 2012.  The Becky Higgins Project Life kits were all backordered and I had to wait until February to place my order on Amazon.
When they finally became available again, in February, I ordered the Project Life Cobalt Core Kit, The Big Variety Pack #2 of page protectors and the Cobalt Cardstock package.  It all arrived and I posted this pic to twitter:
Then, life and the retreat planning for Skyline got in the way of me actually getting started.  Life happens, eh?
UNTIL.....last weekend at the ScrapShare North Alabama Retreat. Here's how it all went down:

  1. Before I left for the retreat, I spent a day going through my photos from January 1, 2012 until April 8, 2012.
  2. I copied the photos I wanted to use into a separate folder labelled 365+1.
  3. I renamed the photos with the date they were specifically taken on or the date I wanted them for: 1-1-12, 1-2-12, 1-3-12, etc.
  4. Then I took the pictures to CVS and printed them on matte paper.

Now, I "cheated" on a couple of days...but it wasn't too bad.  I think I only missed 3 days from January 1st to April 8th!  Not bad if I do say so myself!  An example of "cheating" is:  January 3rd is my Mum's birthday, so I used a picture of her and I on her wedding day back in November 2011.  Since she is up in Canada and I am here, I couldn't get a picture of her on the 3rd. I used a picture of Sophie in her jammies for one of our "Jammie Days" that we have from time to time.  The photo itself was taken a couple of days before the actual jammie day.  So, it was close in time.
So, fast forward to the retreat:

  1. I spent the first part of the retreat putting the photos in order and figuring out which of the page protectors I needed for each week.  I realized that I take a LOT of photos vertically. Yikes!  I may have to order more of the vertical page protectors or maybe a couple packages.
  2. Cut all my Cobalt Cardstock (which was 12x12) to 4x6 sizes.
  3. Cropped down the photos I had to fit horizontally (if they were vertical) and adhere them to the cardstock.
  4. Started slipping all the photos into the page protectors.
  5. Last but not least, JOURNAL.  (more about journaling in a separate post).

And so it begins....my journey with Project Life.  I will be posting some more things about Project Life in the coming days, weeks and months. (Note: To look at all my Project Life Posts at once, you will just need to click at the bottom of this post "Project Life" and/or Project 365 and it will bring up all the posts I have written about this topic.)
If you are interested in more info about Project Life, go check out Becky Higgins' Website.  She has a bar across the top of her site that allows you to see all her products, her blog, among other things. Great stuff over there, I promise!
For those of you wondering how the retreat went?  It was RELAXING and FUN!!! Here we are "Charlie's Scrappers"....Jessica, Marta and I hamming it up at the retreat.

Until next time,

SCRAP ON!

SSNA Retreat 2012

This past weekend, I spent the weekend at the Red Rooster Retreat with some ladies from ScrapShare.  Check out my pics:

It was a great weekend and I got completely caught up to April 8 2011 in my Project Life Album.  More posts to come about that.  I also completed 15 traditional pages for my other albums using sketches from CTMH Idea Books.  I am pretty psyched!

When it was time to plan for this retreat, I did a power layout of current printed photos that were sitting in my power sort boxes.  Then I took all of the photos I have taken since January 1st 2012 and copied them into a 366 folder to be renamed and printed.  I then started renaming the files to 1-1-12, 1-2-12, and so on.  When I printed them at CVS, they were printed with that name on the back and it was SO easy to put together.  What I didn't realize is that the majority of the photos I wanted to use for this album were VERTICAL!  Good thing I bought Variety Pack  2 which has both horizontal and vertical page protectors in it.  I was a little frustrated when I first started adding the photos to the page protectors because I didn't realize the orientation of the pictures would be such an issue.  Newbie error!  Ha!  It's okay though.  It looks fabulous so far.

I am now onto the next set of photos for the last week.  I am really enjoying this process and when I got home from the retreat and showed Ben the album, he seemed to enjoy looking through the album too!  Not bad eh?!?!?!  My current page count for 2012 is now up to 157 pages for 2012!  Woot Woot!  Go ME!!!
Now, to figure out when the next retreat is so that I can get some more scrappiness in!!!
Until next time,
Scrap On!
