Observations...Nathan

Since I have been home all summer with the kids, I have been pretty lucky to see, first-hand, some things about my boy. 

He will be 9 on the 16th.  How has that happened? Obviously, he is getting older, but he is still naive and innocent when it comes to certain things.  I am VERY thankful for that.  I don't know if it is because he doesn't really care much about what others do (which is a blessing at times and a curse at times) or if he just hasn't encountered it...YET.

We have "mom and son" time and we've been out to Wendy's for a frosty several times this summer.  Sometimes with the entire family and sometimes just the two of us.

  

During our last outing, I asked him about school and what the other kids were up to.  

"So, are boys chasing girls, or girls chasing boys?  Has kissing started or any weird conversations happening?"

He screwed up his face and said "Ew!  No!" (love that!)

I asked him "If it had, would you tell me about it?"  

His response was: "Of course!  I tell you everything Mum".  (this made me smile)

So, we continued eating our chocolate frosties and went home.  

"THE" conversation is coming, we just haven't had it yet.  I am not really looking forward to that conversation, but it is a NECESSARY conversation.

He is a GREAT big brother.  

Now, don't get me wrong, they both grate on each other at times, yell and scream at each other and they know how to push each other's buttons.

I have been burning the midnight oil this summer and staying up way later than I normally do.  So, I have been sleeping in past the usual time of 6:15.  They have both been up early and Nathan will get Sophie a bowl of cereal and keep her quiet by turning on cartoons for the both of them.  He is 5 years older and I worried about how close they would be and what their relationship would be like.  

Nathan has always played well with children younger and is very sensitive.  

He defers to her when they play together.  They dress up in all kinds of costumes and play Lego like nobody's business.  It is neat to hear their interactions and their conversations. They dance to music in the livingroom and giggle about things they have seen on tv.  He even reads books with her, but they are always HER books.  

It makes me smile when they play well together. But, it gets under my skin when they are yelling and screaming at each other (but I am sure that is normal with every stay-at-home-mom).

He is sensitive and loving.

I know that the time will come that Nathan will not want to hold my hand, hug me or snuggle on the couch with me.  But I will take it for as long as he will give it.  (I love my boy)

We were out to dinner the other night and he came over to me and just put his arms around my waist and hugged me.  He stayed where he was and held on, instead of letting go.  I was totally fine standing there with him hugging me, even though it was HOT and HUMID out.
A thought skidded through my mind as we stood there: People are going to start looking at us funny when I grab for his hand or hug him.  He is almost as tall as me (I can rest my chin on the top of his head when we stand together, without slouching).  Scary though.  He has always been tall for his age. 

My boy still wants to sit with me and snuggle on the couch.  He likes to lay with Ben and I on our kingsize bed and read books at the end of the day. He will hold my hand through a parking lot, even though he is almost 9 years old, and will hug me for no reason. 

But, like I said earlier, I will take it.  

He is very "in-tune" with how we are feeling as a family or even individually.  If someone is having a bad day, he will give hugs.  When Sophie falls, he asks her if she is okay.  I hope he never loses that sensitivity.

Since he was little, I knew he was a smart and special little man.  He was in the Talented and Gifted (T.A.G.) Class this year for third grade and his teacher told me that he enjoyed having him in his class.  That is wonderful to hear about your child.

He took the CRCT this year for the first time and his scores EXCEEDED the standards of a third grader.  So smart!  He learns quickly and remembers things.  He has a love of learning like me, but the intelligence of his daddy.  A great blend of the both of us.  He loved having Mr.Van Deusen as a teacher this year.  It was a great match for his personality and Nathan's.  It was a GOOD year!

He loves Legos and Star Wars. He'll watch cartoons and movies over and over with his sister.  He reads and re-reads books without getting sick of all the books he has in his library of books. He loves to help me in the kitchen with dinner preparation. He is smart, intuitive, genuine and a good kid.   He has always been a HAPPY kid with a big grin on his face.  He has a zest and excitement for life that is easy to get caught up in.  He still has that "wonder" that kids have with new things.  The "ah-ha" moments.  It is pretty neat to observe him from the sidelines and get a new perspective.  But he sure is growing up! I miss my "L'il Man" but love to watch him grow and find his place in life.  

He owns my heart.  He is my heart. . He's changing right before my eyes......makes me happy and sad all at the same time.  I am very proud of my boy.

Summer / Potty Updates

This weekend was uneventful!
We went to Laura's pool to celebrate both her boys birthdays.  The pool is always a great treat for my kids because we no longer have a pool in the backyard.  
Sophie is getting better at going in the pool and Ben was there to hang out with her. Nathan loved hanging out with Andrew and Ethan and their friend Kyle. It started to thunder, so we all had to head back to Laura's to eat cupcakes around 3:00.  

We went for bike rides on Saturday as a family around "the hood".  Sophie is really getting good at riding that bike of hers!  She even does well on the hills now!  Impressive!  It took a while for Nathan to learn to ride, but Sophie seems to really love going out on hers!

Nathan is such a "inside" kid.  He would rather stay inside, play video games, play with his Lego or read a book in comparison to Sophie.  She would spend a lot of time riding her bike and hanging outside doing whatever.  It is amazing that these kids are oh-so-different and they came from the same parents!!!!

What's Up This week?       NOT MUCH! 

Ben has to work 32 hours in 3 days in order to get the 5th (Friday) off as well as the 4th of July.  So, we won't see much of him at all until the 4th.

Still potty training Sophie - she is great about peeing on the potty, but when it comes to poopin?  Oh.my.goodness....she just keeps doing it in her panties!!!  ARGH!!!  SO FRUSTRATING!!!   I thought that we would have the hang of it all by now and it has only been a month in underwear!  We use pull-ups for naptime and we use Goodnites for night time sleeping. I am really glad that we are out of diapers, but I just want her to poop in the darn potty already!!!  SHEESH!   We don't go anywhere during the week, because I would hate to be out and about and have to deal with underwear full of yuck....so I am CRAWLING THE WALLS here!!!  We have done 3 trips out of the house and they were FAST - one trip to Kroger, one to Wendy's for frosties and one trip to the post office to drop off a package to be mailed.  It is so hard when you are a "get out of the house or go nutso" kind of person!!!!  

Anyway, that is what is up with us right now.

*8 Things......NATHAN EDITION

8 Things About Nathan RIGHT NOW....
June 20th, 2013 Edition

Nathan is a "south-paw".

Nathan will be 9 in August and he comes up to my chin when we stand by each other.  Yikes! Nathan will be in the 4the Grade Talented and Gifted class in August when he goes back to school.  He is extremely smart, loves Math and Reading.  He loved his 3rd Grade TAG teacher Mr. VanDeusen and we will miss him in 4th grade!

He is a GAMER like his Dad and loves the NHL Hockey game for the wii and Diablo III for the PC.  On the weekends, he and Daddy meet Uncle Mike and Nick (his cousin) to play Diablo III online together via Skype.  He likes other games, but those two are top of the list right now.  

If we lived in Canada, Nathan would be wanting to play HOCKEY!  He has finally caught onto our love of the game and plays ball hockey on our screened in porch.  He LOVES the game as much as we do!

Nathan loves to help me in the kitchen to prepare dinner or mix kool-aid for me. He wants to learn to cook, so this summer, he is really helping me in the kitchen.

Nathan's main chores in our house are:  

unload the dishwasher
feed the dogs
keep his room clean

put his laundry away

Nathan is a LEGO Guy.....he has lots of kits, but for Christmas I found lots of lego on Craigslist to mix and match together so that he can build whatever he wants.  He is very imaginative and creative when it comes to LEGO.  He constructed his own "Stanley Cup" from Sophie's Duplo the other night.  Pretty cool!

Nathan is the sweetest brother to Sophie.  In the morning, he gets up early and gets the cereal down out of the pantry for both of them to have breakfast.  He gets it ready for Sophie and they eat together.  It is really neat to see the two of them eating together. He is a very loving boy and will ask to snuggle with me on the couch when we watch tv sometimes (but don't tell anyone because I don't want to spoil it - I am sure that will go away soon and I want to prolong it as long as possible).

Re-Entry's A B!tch!

I'm a slacker when it comes to BLOGGING in 2013!

Not only have I been busy with Origami Owl, but I have also been really busy with OTHER stuff!

I planned another Skyline Retreat for March 2013.  

Probably my WORST weekend - ever - happened that weekend while I was up at Camp Skyline in Mentone, Alabama.  

Now, prior to Skyline, my friend Marcy came to visit and hang with me and that was a BLAST!!!  She is awesome!  I always enjoy spending time with Marcy!  On Wednesday, we drove up to Marta's for our regular overnight, which was also pretty fantastic.  I always sleep so well at Marta's house.  I am not quite sure why.

Now, we get to the B.A.D. part......
I need to explain why the weekend was the WORST.WEEKEND.EVER!
Now, planning this retreat is hard enough because there were 38 women all wanting different things.  Who can please 38 women?  Surely, NOT ME! But, I try my best and they appreciate it (for the most part).  So, when you add a night of no sleep to the mix (yep - Thursday night, I was awake all night with my good friend, Sharon and some serious tummy issues - on my part) and then add in a LONG Friday with still no sleep.  We got the group shot though.....

When I finally get back to the cabin to take a much-needed nap before dinner, a phone call from the Hubby in GA. I called back and Nathan answered the phone "Hi Mum!  Sophie's puking all over your room!  It's really gross!"  (Gotta love an 8 year old who tells you everything.)

I finally get to talk to Ben and he called to see where I keep the carpet shampoo.
Now, hubby isn't the one that deals with the kids being sick (for the most part) and calling doctors and such.  That is a Mummy duty.
Well, I start to worry and freak out a bit because all I can think of is Sophie puking all over the house.  I mean ALL.OVER.THE.HOUSE.

My panic kicked in and "Mama Bear" bear came out!!!

I went into "over-drive" and started to blurt out every little piece of advice for Ben and he took it and said that he would figure it out.  I will tell you right now, I was really worried about what the house would look like when I got home and who else would be sick by the time I got home! 

I had called the doctor to see about getting some anti-nausea meds for her and he called them in.  Friends, who I thought would help, didn't come through for me and one stay-at-home-dad, that I know in our neighbourhood, came through for me and went to Publix to get the meds for Ben.
I was then escorted to bed by Marta (who was afraid that I would take my car keys and drive after being awake for more than 40 hours at that point).  

I truly think she saved my life that night and all I did was yell at her to "give me my F'n car keys!"  (Sorry for yelling at you Marta!  LOVE YOU!)  

You see, when "mama bear" comes out, you aren't rational, you can't think clearly, you lose your temper and say things you don't necessarily mean in anger and you just want to be there for your kidlet.  Well, I was embarrassed too.  Being escorted to my bed like a child?  What the hell!  I am a grown woman!
ANYWAY........

To make a long story short, Daddy came through for Sophie and my respect and love for this man has grown.  On top of that, my friend Marta, rose to the occasion, stared "Mama Bear" in the face and didn't care that I was yelling at her. She knew I would be okay in the morning after a good night's sleep. 

I have a good friend who loves me!  

Ben is a great father to my children!  

I am blessed

So, it was the weekend from HELL!!! 

I got through it.

Sophie made it through her first time throwing up.

Marta is still "my person" and I love her.  

My respect and love for Ben has grown exponentially after dealing with this.

Nathan stayed healthy.

Ben stayed healthy.

I did come home completely exhausted, 

but that is the case whenever I come home from a retreat.

Isn't it funny how, after all of that, I can see the blessings?  

Amazing.

Scrapbookers, while on retreats and afterwards, joke and say that "Re-entry's A Bitch".  

Only this time, it definitely was!!!

30 Days of Thankfulness : Day 2

Today, I am thankful for two healthy, happy kidlets.
Both Nathan and Sophie have their own little personalities.  

I love that Nathan is so much like me and Sophie is so much like Ben.  

I love that they are both developing into great people and have their own little quirks.  

Nathan is my Lego-loving, book-reading, make-believing kid.

Sophie is my song-singing, music-loving, chatter-box kid.

I love them more than words could ever describe and can't imagine my life without them.  Heck, I can't even really remember life without them.  Sad eh?

It is amazing how much these little people can change your priorities and change you.  They can bring out the best (or worst) in you at times! It isn't pretty at all.  They know your "hot buttons" and know exactly what to do to get a rise out of you.  

BUT....they're your kids and you love them anyway!!!

I love you Nathan!

I love you Sophie!

ICK! .... Hello September!

HELLO SEPTEMBER!  

My own spin-off of  "Hello Monday" that I have been trying to do lately.  I decided that since September is a FULL month, I would share with you what's up in the "M" Family Household!

Hello FEVER!  Yep...that's right, I've had a fever - 101.5...and chills, sweating, aches, pains and now a cough.  Yay me!  Now, I think I have given it to Sophie too....the cold part....hopefully not the fever!  Poor Kid!  

Hello Pampered Chef Christy!  She is coming over on Saturday to do a batch cooking class for all of us busy moms that want to cook our meals at home and save money! That is this Saturday the 8th! 

Hello NANA and GRANDAD!  They fly in from Canada on Thursday morning (13th) next week and stay until Wednesday morning (19th) of the following week. The kids will love having Nana and Grandad visiting and they always come right in between the kids birthdays.  So that means "Birthday Gifts" for both kids!  Nathan is excited to take Nana to Toys R Us!  He has a SERIOUS Lego/Nintendo addiction!  

Hello 13th Anniversary!  While my mum and dad are here, Ben and I will celebrate our 13th anniversary married and 16th anniversary together! I am hoping that my parents will keep the kids one night and we can go out for a special date night just Ben and I.  When they are only here for 6 days, it is hard to leave them with the kids and not hang out with them.  You know?  Look at how young we looked back then.  Yeesh!!! I feel OLD!!!

Hello FALL BREAK!  At the end of the month of September, Nathan and Sophie are out of school for a week and Ben and I are trying to decide what we are going to do.  If we want to take them to a beach for a couple of days or if we want to just have a "stay"cation or if we want to trek up to DC to check out the history up there.  I think all 3 would work for us.  But, it will be a week where Ben doesn't have to go to CAT and we can have some much needed "FAMILY TIME".  I would love to be able to get in some Family Photos that week too.  Since we haven't taken Sophie to the beach yet, it may be time to do it!  Afterall, Nathan was almost 3 when we took him for the first time!  I can just imagine Sophie at the beach "dirty, mama, fix it!!!"  Maybe a blanket at the beach will help with her getting "dirty".  She hates when she gets stuff on her feet and hands.  Should be interesting!  At least Ben has enough vacation time left to be able to take off from work!  We thought Disney would be cool, but we want to wait a little longer for Sophie to really know what she is experiencing!  So, we have put that off to another time!  

In other news:  

Sophie started going to Lunch Bunch this month and Tumblebus classes are on Wednesdays!  So, she gets to stay until 1:00 now instead of noon.  I get an extra hour and she gets to play outside, do music/art and eat lunch with her little friends! Here she is trying out Tumblebus last week and she really seemed to enjoy it!

Nathan has been in the Talented and Gifted program at school for a month and seems to be doing great! I haven't been to the classroom this year to volunteer yet, but plan to in the coming weeks.  My first parent/teacher conference was a week and a half ago and Mr. Van Deusen seems to think Nathan will do well on the CRCT in the Spring.  The cool thing:  Mr. Van D  has moved Nathan right beside him to keep him from talking and I LOVE that!!!  Sorry buddy, but you DO need it!  

Gosh, I love this kid!!  Whatta face!!!!  

Cyn: During this crazy month, I will be planning for SKYLINE #10!!!  WOOT! WOOT!  This is a BIG retreat this time. We are celebrating 10 Retreats together!  I have some serious stuff planned for the retreat!  I am excited.  Most of the stuff is already planned and the last thing to plan is the seating arrangements and if anyone backs out, I have to find their replacement from the waiting list.  So, I am praying that nobody else backs out so that I can get everything done!  I also need to figure out how to manage my time better with Sophie being in preschool 3 mornings a week, working out, volunteering and doing the "stay at home mommy" tasks like grocery shopping, cleaning, etc.  Time management has always been a struggle for me....I see a challenge coming!!!! 

Ben: Beginning September 1st, Ben is now the Controls Engineer at CAT.  He is still working in the Facilities Department, but he will be working more with the robots and programming once they are installed at the plant.  Since he went to school for Mechanical Engineering:Robotics and Automation Technologies, it is right where he should be! I think it will be awesome for him to actually use the things he learned in school.  Sweet!!!

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year!

Remember that Staples commercial?  The one with the kids walking (read: sulking) behind their joy-filled parent, while they rode the shopping cart all around the store getting supplies with a HUGE grin on their face?
Yeah, I know you are grinning from ear to ear right now remembering that awesome commercial.  If not, here you go:

 

What a laugh, eh?  

That is how I felt a couple of weeks ago while I was shopping for school supplies.  Yes, I am the geeky mom, who grins from ear to ear in an office supply store and can never walk past a pack of post-its without picking up "just one pack".  I could spend a couple thousand dollars at an office supply store without batting an eye.  Sad, eh?

ANYWAY...
Thursday, we had open house for Nathan's school and we got our traditional "Teacher/Student" picture:

We took all the supplies that day, so that all we had to do today was put on the new backpack, grab the Darth Vader lunchbox and go. 

I have already offered up my services as "ROOM MOM" and Mr. Van Deusen has accepted.  So, this morning, Sophie and I went in to get all the rest of the school supplies put away and organized.  We were only there about an hour and fifteen minutes.  Not bad!  I guess that's what happens when you have done the volunteer thing already!  Gotta love a "seasoned" room mom!

So, Sophie and I came home after organizing Mr. VanD and enjoyed a quiet house, a nice big cup of Tim Horton's coffee and watched the Olympics without the Wii or the sound of the DS, or even the sound of kids fighting with each other or playing.  Woot!  Woot! 

I may sound like the worst parent right now by writing this out, but you know what?  Y'all are thinking the same thing!  Don't even pretend you aren't!  After the first month on vacation for the summer, you are all counting the days until the kids go back to school!  Don't even try to deny it!  HA HA HA!  I love my kids, but to be perfectly honest, they are both a lot better with the routine and consistency that going to school brings.  

The cool thing:  We have OPEN HOUSE for Sophie on Thursday night and we get to meet her new preschool teacher, Ms. Jill.  I get to do the happy dance again in a week's time, when Sophie goes to Preschool for the first time next Monday.  

Whatever will I do with those 3 hours 3 days a week?  I am sure I can find something!!!  ;) ;)   scrapbook, work out, volunteer, grocery shop without kids...gasp!

I am beside myself with excitement.....

Last Day of School!

This picture was taken at Open House the week before school started with Ms.Sarratt.  

Both Nathan and Sophie LOVE Ms. Sarratt and I am very sad that she won't be back at the school next year.  I think she is also sad because she wants to see her FIRST CLASS through their Elementary years.

As the room mom, I have been very fortunate to have gotten to know Crystal and have seen her interactions with our children throughout this entire school year.  I have had the privilege of working side by side with her and she is a phenomenal teacher.  The kids love her and she loves our kids like they are her own.  I couldn't have asked for a better teacher for Nathan.  She was a huge blessing this year.
Good Luck wherever you are headed Ms. Sarratt! I will miss you, my kidlets will miss you and the rest of your class will miss you too! You have been wonderful this year!

Last Week of School....

As room mom, I have a lot to do this week.  So, posts here on the blog will either be automated or not done at all. Not only do I have stuff to do for Nathan's class, but I also have things I want and need to get done BEFORE the summer starts.  
I have a garage that has stuff in it that we didn't even touch in Warner Robins and will need to be thrown out.  So, the thought was to get it done before Nathan gets out of school to allow me to run what we want thrown out to the landfill.  
Jessica is having SCRAP NIGHT at her place for the first time this month on Thursday night.  I am definitely going because I have a lot of sample layouts to do for the Feeling Scrappy Sketchapalooza Class that starts June 4th.  I am really looking forward to that class.
Also, putting together a summer activities calendar for the next two months so that we know what we are doing and when we are doing it.  I have bought a bunch of books that Nathan is not allowed to touch until AFTER he finished school on Friday.  Here is the pile, along with a Math Game for his DS.  I want to keep him reading and learning over the summer.  

 

Another thing I have done in preparation for the summer: I purchased the movie passes for the summer for each of us.  They show one movie a week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30.  It was $5 per person for the entire summer.  So, I know that will be one activity that we have for one day a week.  It is for children, so if Sophie doesn't sit through the entire movie, she can play in the aisle.  I have been told that it is okay, so that covers one activity for the kids and I to do.

We have Zoo Atlanta memberships to use for the year and also Georgia Aquarium memberships.  On the really, really hot days, we will head to the Aquarium.  There are also other museums that I want to check out as well.  But this schedule of activities needs to get done before Nathan is out of school for the summer!
Nathan also got a free ticket to 6 Flags Over Georgia for reading this year and he wants Ben to take him up there for the day.  I am totally okay with that and I think it would be awesome for the two of them to have a Nathan/Daddy Day.  Ben just has to remember his camera!  ;)Oh and did I mention that I will be joining LA FITNESS on June 1st?  Yep!  That is the plan, Stan!  I have been really missing working out, teaching aerobics and personal training.  So, after talking with a few people and checking out the gyms in the area, I have decided that LA Fitness is where I need to join.  Luckily, they have child care available AND it is not a contract, so if I don't like it as much as I think I will, I can cancel at any time.  I love that!  I also think that by having activities and working out, my SANITY will be intact at the end of the summer!  HA!  I love my kidlets but Sophie has begun that whole terrible twos/threes thing with the temper tantrums and such.  Not a fun thing to deal with.  ARGH!  So, working out should help with stress management (OR at least I hope it does) and weight loss too!  Woot!  Woot!
So, that is the update for now. I have GOT to get to work! Catch ya on the flipside!

Wordless Wednesday

 FIRST TIME EATING CORN ON THE COB......

Project Life - More Pages (caught up!)

Here are the last of my Project Life 2012 album and then I am caught up to this week!  I have one page left to add pictures to, but the photos are sitting here on my desk as I type this.  I know, I am a slacker!  I have one half of the 2 page spread done and posted at the bottom, but I still need to do the journaling for the pictures I printed. 

The journaling on the page above is about the prep work and packing for the Skyline Retreat I plan twice a year. Between grocery shopping and packing, my week was taken up!  Sophie tried to help pack too...by adding herself to my Creative Memories rolling tote!  I took a picture of the pantry after I shopped because it is a "slice of life" kind of picture.  Slice of Life = stuff you really need to get a picture of in your daily life.  I mean, those are the things you tend to forget and sure they may be meaningless to you now, but in a decade or two when the kidlets are grown and you can't remember what their favourite cereal is...you go to the "pantry picture" and see which ones were on the pantry shelf at that time!

A friend of mine has rubbed off on me....I have recently started grabbing our large mixing bowl and making a HUGE salad for lunch.  What a great picture that salad made and OH HOW YUMMY!!!! 

Once again, the versatility of the pocket pages allows me to share a special occasion for our family - The Montreal Canadiens hockey game versus The North Carolina Hurricanes.  It really worked out well with these pages and I am really happy with the outcome. 

People say that their lives are boring.  People say that they are single and all they do is "routine stuff" or "just go to work".  There HAS to be something to photograph.  In the next little while, I plan to make a short little list of things that may be good to photograph and post it here on my blog.  Keep an eye out for it!

Simple Woman's Day Book - Week 16

Outside My Window....it is overcast and a little dreary!
I am thinking...the slots for Skyline are going FAST this time.  This is #10 and kind of a big deal and with only 30 slots available, the scramble begins!
I am thankful...for coffee this morning.  I didn't sleep well last night.  So, coffee is my best friend today.  It is so hard to get out of bed when the weather is overcast.  
In the kitchen...I have sinks full of dishes that haven't made it to the dishwasher yet.  I hate this...it is a huge pet peeve of mine.  But, whatever.
I am wearing...jammies.  
I am creating...a new blog post about Project Life 2012.  
I am going...to the market to get some things for a special 40th birthday scrapping party tomorrow night at Jessica's house.  Amy turns 40 today but can't get together until tomorrow night to celebrate with us.
I am wondering...how Ben's day at work is going. I hope it is a good day for him.
I am reading...a few books on my Kindle right now.  One is about WEARY MOMS and Lord knows, I need it!
I am hoping...Sophie takes a nice long nap this afternoon.
I am looking forward to...date night with Nathan this weekend. It will be just the two of us and we are both looking forward to it.  I think sometimes Nathan thinks he gets lost in the shuffle with the 2 year old and her antics/temper tantrums.  So, it is time for some mummy time, just Nathan and I!
I am learning...that my mood sets the mood for the rest of the house.  
Around the house...I have piles of laundry that need to be put away, dishes to be put in the dishwasher, phone calls to be made and a bunch of shows I have on the DVR that need to be watched.  
I am pondering...the video on YouTube that Becky Higgins did about organizing her children's school work.  It is 29 minutes long and it is pure genius!!  Check out the video:

What A Trip!!! What a Game!!!

We had a blast at the Carolina Hurricanes vs. Montreal Canadiens game on Thursday night.  We got a really nice couple to take our photo as we were walking to the arena.  They got a great shot!!!  


It was awesome to take Nathan and Sophie to their first NHL game ever!  We were 5 rows up from the ice and right beside the Habs bench! For those of you who don't know....the Canadiens are also known as the Habs.  We lined up to get in as soon as we could so that we could see the team warm up.  Talk about up close and personal!  We took Nathan right up to the glass to let him see how big the guys really were and how much equipment they wore.  We got to see P.K. Subban shoot pucks at Budaj right in front of us and Erik Cole was standing right next to us as we watched the warm up.
Nathan loved watching the zambonis go round and round the ice.  He would LOVE to ride on one of those someday.  I think we will take him back to a game.  Better yet, let's get him on the ice too!  Maybe some skating lessons are in his future!  Afterall, how long did I figure skate?!?!?!  LOL


When it was time for the game, we sang the Canadian national anthem at the top of our lungs, which we haven't done in a long time! I had goosebumps singing our anthem and hearing the rest of the Canadiens fans singing along too was surreal! 


The game was action-packed and a lot of fun.  Nathan was watching the fans and taking it all in.  Sophie, on the other hand, was interested in the music and watching the fans and hockey but grew tired of sitting in one spot.  That's a toddler for ya!  Ha!


The Canadiens got the first goal in the second period and then Carolina tied it up.  By the end of the game they were 1-1 and had to go into OT (overtime).  Then after the 5 minutes of OT, they went into a shootout. It was pretty cool that, not only was it Nathan and Sophie's first hockey game, but they also got to see overtime and a shoot out!  


3 players from each team went one-on-one with the goalies.  It was a nail-biter!  In the end, the Canadiens lost.  It was a great game and yeah, we lost. But, it was the Canes' last home game and they should have won.  Afterall, they were the home team. 
I did get a shot of the winning goal with MY camera!  Sweet, eh???

So, now I am on the hunt for Habs tickets in Montreal because Ben and I have decided that we will drop the kidlets off and head to Montreal for a game (or two) next season.  We love our team and we love hockey.  I think the kidlets loved the game too.
Now, to figure out what pictures to put in the album....or maybe they should all go in my scrapbook?!?!
